Have you ever taken the time to examine your thoughts? Most of us don’t pay close attention to our thoughts. We let them take us wherever they will. We assume that every thought that we have comes from our brain but what if I told you that spirit beings that you can’t see, taste or touch are adding their own thoughts to yours? Would you call me crazy? The Bible tells us that we are at war.
“Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world— he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.” – Revelation 12:7-9
Satan and his angels were cast out of heaven. Guess where they ended up? On earth. When Jesus came to this earth he did battle with Satan and his evil angels and ultimately triumphed over them.
He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. – Colossians 2:15
As a result of this war that Satan has lost, he knows that he is going to be destroyed one day. Since he can’t win the war, he’s decided to follow a scorched earth policy. Think about it. How do you fight against an all powerful being like God? What could you do to hurt him when you can’t reach him? You go destroy what that Being holds dear. In Satan’s causes therefore, he knows that God loves human beings so he has made it his life mission to destroy as many humans as possible after he has caused them to willfully separate themselves from God.
Satan isn’t sitting around doing nothing and neither are his evil angels lazy. They are actively working in and among humans looking to influence them towards sin and away from God. “Be sober- minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8.
Satan’s Battle Plan
Satan works by getting us to fall into sin. What is the first step towards falling into sin? All sin starts with a thought that is cherished. Satan or one of his demons can speak a thought to our spirit and it will be perceived in our mind. When we become aware of this thought most of us claim it as our own. We don’t realize that this thought could have come from outside of us. We are to examine all our thoughts. We must learn to guard our thoughts because this one of the principal ways that Satan will cause us to fall into sin.
Satan is a master at causing us to doubt. That’s how he got Eve to fall into sin at the very beginning and it is still how he likes to operate on us today. A thought comes into our head that tempts us to either doubt God or to fall into some kind of sin. If we are on our guard and we have filled our minds with the knowledge of God’s word, the Bible, we will be prepared to fight the enemy like Jesus did. “It is written. It is written. It is written.”
“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ” – 2 Corinthians 10:5
I challenge you to take the time to examine your thoughts. The next time you get a crazy thought, don’t simply accept that it is coming from you. It very well could have been planted in your mind by a spirit. Take the time each day to read your bible and to memorize helpful verses that will help you meet the temptations and thoughts that you may have.
We are at war. Each of us has a choice. You don’t have to stay in ignorance and God hasn’t left you without help. The question only you can answer however is whether you are ready to stand and fight. Will you fight?
