It is so easy to be wrapped up in our own little world where we don’t notice or help the people in need around us. Make no mistake about it. It is costly to help others. It will cost us in time, security, money and maybe even happiness. Dealing with people is messy business. People are prone to demand too much, to take advantage of us at every opportunity.
Do you get your hands dirty?
Jesus makes it clear that if we don’t get involved in our people’s lives we will not be in the kingdom of heaven. (Matt. 25:31-40) Revelation makes it clear that we are judged by our works. (Rev. 22:12) I want to encourage you to do something starting today. If you have been doing something you can most likely do more. If you are doing nothing, anything is better than what you are currently doing.
Get involved with a local mission oriented organization like a local soup kitchen or homeless shelter. If you are currently attending a church, look at getting involved in their community outreach program. Don’t fall prey to easy excuses. Don’t settle for safety and security st the expense of the needy people around you. Don’t let the inaction of the people you know keep you from doing what you know is right.
There is no better time to get started than right now! Who is God putting on your heart that you can help now?
