Jesus was a Jew
If you take the time to think about it, Jesus was a Jew. Therefore, he would not look like the pictures we see of him. He would have carefully followed the practices found in the Torah. He would therefore have had a long beard for one. He would have most likely had a prominent nose. He would have most likely had a dark skin complexion. If we follow what the Bible prophecy says about Jesus’ coming in Isaiah, he wouldn’t have been much to look at humanly speaking.
“For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.” – Isaiah 53:2
Why do you need to see what he looks like?
It is natural for human beings to want to see the likeness of a person we hold in high regard. This would be especially so when talking about Jesus given what he has done for us. The problem however, is that it is a pointless exercise. The images of Jesus we see are guaranteed to bear absolutely no resemblance to the actual historical Jesus. If this is true then, why do we need his image at all?
We need to be careful about making a physical representation of God in any form whether image or statue. While it would seem innocent enough to have a physical picture of God consider what the second of the ten commandments tell us.
“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.” – Exodus 20:4
Believe in Jesus BY FAITH
Jesus wants us to believe in him by faith, not by sight. The image of Jesus has no mystical power. It won’t protect you from evil. It won’t bring you good fortune if it hangs on a wall in your home. It doesn’t make you holy or confer onto you and your family any special benefits. In fact, instead, you risk bringing something into your house that could bring evil down on you and your family. Jesus himself predicted that people would believe on him even though they had not seen him.
Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” – John 20:29
End Time Deception
Now let me ask you something… If you were Satan and you were looking to deceive the whole world and lead them to believe that you were Jesus… In what image would you appear? I think the answer is obvious. Unfortunately, we humans put a whole lot more emphasis on what we can see with our own eyes than on living and believing by faith.
