Are you aware of all of the blessings in your life right now? As I think about my life I have much to be thankful for. God has given me a loving wife that I find attractive in so many ways. He has given me three children who bring me joy every day and who are in good health. He has given me a nice home out in the country surrounded by beautiful views. I am in good health and I have the wonderful privilege of working full time for God. How about you? What are you thankful for?
Who is getting the credit for the good in your life?
Now ask yourself this. Who is getting the credit for the good things in your life right now? You or God or someone else? “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” – James 1:17. God should be getting all the credit. If it wasn’t for Him, we wouldn’t even exist. We wouldn’t continue to live. There are many bible texts that tell us that God is responsible for everything we have in our life.
“You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth…” – Deuteronomy 8:18.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare (peace) and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
Two other passages to look up are Leviticus 26:1-13 and Deuteronomy 28:1-14. We have much to be thankful for. We ultimately take so many things for granted when we shouldn’t. God has given us salvation! Eternal life! He has adopted us into his own family as his own dear children! “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are…” – 1 John 3:1. “even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will” – Ephesians 1:4-5.
Think about how amazing it is that we should have been adopted into God’s family through Jesus Christ! We are no longer illegitimate children. We are now children of the King of the universe! Our daddy is a king! You and I are princes and princesses of the living God! John 15:15 tells us that we are also the friends of God. “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” – John 15:15. In the very next verse John writes that we can ask anything in Jesus’ name and he will do it! How awesome is that!
My Daddy is Bigger than Your Daddy!
Do you remember having those silly arguments as children? A child has full confidence in the protection of the father. How much more should we have of our God? We should not be afraid. We have a BIG daddy who will save us. Yet another reason to praise God! Part of the blessing of following God is having God take care of those who wish us harm.
There is no such thing as luck for a Christian!
A while back I noticed that I and others around me would often say of good things that happened, “I was lucky!” God helped me to see that I needed to change my language. Now, instead of giving the credit to chance when good things happen I say, “God has blessed me with…” That way God gets the credit He deserves!
What about you? What are you thankful for that I may have left out? I’d love to read your comments!
